Buying
I would like to acquire these items for the collection / virtual museum. I often get questions about values of jars. The two standard hobby price guides are the Red Book (currently at Edition 10, ©2007) and the Fruit Jar Annual (©2008).
Fruit Jars
- Always interested in rare Ball jars. Do you have an aqua
BALL BBGMCo FRUIT JAR or an original amber BBGMCo? You could end up $2,500 to $10,000 richer, and this collection would end up very blessed. Other highly sought after Ball jars include: RB#194-1 amber QT/HG, RB#194-5 amber QT, RB#195 aqua QT, RB#195-1 aqua QT, RB#261 amber HG, RB#264 aqua QT, RB#267 amber QT, RB#268-5 clear or amber HP, RB#322 clear QT, RB#1780 amber PT. My passion is to find jars like these. I promise to be a good caretaker and provide them a loving home - and allow them to be viewed by others!
- RB#460, "The Best" Fruit Keeper, aqua PT $125.
- RB#493-10, Genuine Boyds Mason., Base: Greenfield Fruit Jar Co Greenfield Ind. $200.
- RB#1632, Mason ("shepherd's crook"), Base: Greenfield Fruit Jar Co. Greenfield, Ind. $200.
- RB#1466, The Leader, olive green or yellow or citron color, any size. As you know, this is my favorite jar. I am not going to quote any prices because these colors are rare and such a jar would typically stay in someone's collection their whole lifetime, but at least I can dream. Feel free to torture me with color photos if you have such a jar. It's the kind of pain that I don't mind. I did see a cool one on Darrell Plank's website.
- I would like to buy your collection of Greenfield, IN jars (Boyd Perfect Mason, Standard, Mason w/shepherd's crook symbol, and Ball jars made on the Owens machine). These jars have a local interest to me. In fact, a corner of the historical fruit jar company site overlaps with the property of the company that I work for!
- RB#16-5, "Acme" Airtight Butter Jar Pat App'd For Pendleton Glass Tube and Pipe Works of Indiana (on glass lid). If someone has a picture of this jar I would like to see it. I have noticed people reporting this jar in very old magazine articles, but there have been no pictures or sketches.
Lids/Caps
- Ball Perfection lids, all variations.
- Ball Bros Glass Mfg Co Buffalo NY, metal screw cap, all sizes.
- Ball clear or milkglass "V" lids.
- Sun, Crescent Moon, Star milkglass lid.
Books/Magazines
- Canadian Fruit Jar Collector, Numbers 1 - 7, c1973, by Ed Murray.
- Canadian Fruit Jar Report, Book 1, by John Barclay, $20.
- Fruit Jar Annual, c1999, $20.
- Standard Fruit Jar Reference, c1983, by Dick Roller. I have one of these books, but I know other people who could use one. This book is out-of-print and is the best reference for historical information on jar manufacturers and dates. It was printed in a limited edition of 600 copies with some being sent to libraries, and some had to be destroyed because they were damaged in storage. Paying $125 for clean copies.
Go-withs
- Wooden Shipping Boxes; especially Ball, Greenfield, Marion, Swayzee. Of course, the one I want the most is for "The Leader" jars! Norman Barnett at one
time owned the only known example of this box (he has a wonderful collection of early jars and jars with unusual closures too).
- Items from Greenfield Bottle Works, Hollweg & Reese, H.W.Streeter, and Greenfield Fruit Jar & Bottle Co. (letterhead, advertising, tradecards, postcards, etc.). I am also interested in sharing photocopies and research information with you on these glass companies.
- Items from Leader Glass Works, Patterson Glass Co., Skillen-Goodin Glass Co. (letterhead, advertising, postcards, tradecards, etc.) - very interested in advertising for "The Winner" jar or "Star" jar. I am also interested in sharing photocopies and research information with you on these glass companies.
- Looking for Kerr Commemorative green "soda pop" bottles, $7 each. There are 24 different ones. I am down to only needing 8 of them. The ones I need are: 1976 U.S. Bicentennial 16oz, 1976 Retirees Banquet 16oz, 1977 Retirees Banquet, 1982 Festival 10oz, 1982 Retirees Banquet 10oz, 1983 Retirees Banquet 10oz.
